Sieger (Gijs Blom) is a 15-year old mild-mannered boy who lives with his father and his rebellious and cranky elder brother (Jonas Smulders). Sieger is also a member of the athletics team and is chosen to participate in the national championships as one of the relay team. Marc (Ko Zandvliet), outgoing and unpredictable, is also a member of the team: their friendship soon develops into something deeper. In the meantime, with thousand of doubts assailing him, Sieger begins going out with Jessica, who doesn’t hide that fact that she finds him attractive. As training becomes more intense, he begins a lonely and heart-wrenching battle with his feelings, from his greatest fears to his most hidden desires…
A delicate portrait of a sentimental education, Boys manages in its intent to tell with grace and freshness the problems of the heart, expertly alternating the dynamism and adrenaline of the sports sequences with the poetry and the charm of the sentimental scenes, where often gestures and glances – more then words – give voice to the desires and interior conflicts of the protagonists
