Young Malcolm is the prototype of a geek: black, living in Inglewood – L.A. suburb -with his single mother; he is crazy about 90s hip hop, he plays in a punk-rock band, rides around on his bike with his close friends Diggy – a lesbian tom-boy – and Jib, and he dreams of going to study at Harvard. Against his will he finds himself involved with drugs, bad girls, guns, the black market and blackmail.
Produced among others by Forest Whitaker (who provides the voiceover of the narrator) and Pharrell Williams, Dope is a fun and exciting film with irresistible rhythm about growing up, telling of the difficulty of growing up amidst retro music and contemporary technology. Great public acclaim at the 2015 Sundance Festival.
