Archivi Migranti: surrogates from elsewhere
This travelling exhibition, organised by the American artist E. G. Crichton, already held in Amsterdam and San Francisco, brings 13 different LGBT museums, libraries and archives to the city, in a sort of dispersion of worldwide queer archives: a dialogue between the various organizations invited to send files that migrates across national borders more easily than humans can actually do. For LGBT people, whose traces are often and still frequently deleted by families, omitted from official history or simply lost, these archives are a way to recreate a genealogy, a history. From the British National Archives in London to the Hungarian Labrisz, it is a resource for academic research, but also for a wide range of militant and artistic practices in the emerging forms of Art Archive, through performance, moving image and visual art. In the proposed exhibition, the travelling archives are able to raise their voice in a posthumous conversation amidst original objects from Cassero’s collections and objects from other collections, recreated for the occasion.
A project by Centro di Documentazione Cassero LGBT Center in collaboration with Gender Bender Festival, GLBT History Museum (San Francisco), University of California. With support from Comune di Bologna in collaboration with the Ufficio Pari Opportunità e Tutela delle Differenze.
