Out Run

Founded in 2003 in The Philippines, Ladlad is the only GLBT political party in the world. In a strongly Catholic nation, the leader of the party, the transgender Bemz Benedito, begins her campaign for election to Congress: a “mission impossible” that ends up involving, as well as activists, trans-hairdressers and beauty queens, their main opponent, Benny Abante: homophobic evangelical preacher and member of Congress. The documentary tells the story of the party and its struggle to give voice and dignity to the Filipino LGBT community, in a country where religion, cultural values and democratic progress are often in conflict.
