PERFECT OBEDIENCE (Obediencia Perfecta)
13 year old Julian enters as a seminarian in the Jesuit institute of the Cruzados de Cristo and begins a difficult spiritual journey towards “perfect obedience”, according to the rule of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The founding father of the order, Angel de la Cruz, chooses him as his favourite and hosts him in his own private house: he will act as Julian’s mentor in exchange for total obedience, which will gradually transform into physical and psychological submission. Inspired by the true story of the scandal that hit Father Marcial Maciel, founder of the Legionaries of Christ, Urquiza’s film deals with a serious and delicate theme by suggestion rather than showing, making it even more disturbing.
