A dialogue with Greta Pieropan, Susanne Franco, Chiara Bersani, Philippe Kratz and Silvia Gribaudi

What remains today of a choreographic work considered a milestone in the history of dance? In what forms has it survived over time? What shapes has it taken? In what cultural and geographical contexts can it rise again? What is the influence that it has in today’s choreographers and what values can it transmit in the future? Starting from these and other questions, the playwright Greta Pieropan and the dance scholar SusanneFranco (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice) will have a talk with Chiara Bersani, Silvia Gribaudi and Philippe Kratz on the on the ideas and concepts that sprout off from The Dying Swan, a piece that inspired their works, which were presented during the SwansNever Die shows.

Greta Pieropan has a background in Modern Philology and Literature Studies, with a focus on journalism and live performing arts. She works with festivals and dance companies on communicating dance to professional and non-professional audiences. Her personal research includes dance dramaturgy, as a tool for the creative process and for developing a positive exchange between artists and audiences and researching new narratives for contemporary dance.

Susanne Franco (Ca’ Foscari University of Venece) is a dance scholar and curator. She has published several essays and volumes on modern and contemporary dance and research methodology. She coordinates the Ca’ Foscari unit for the Dancing Museums project. The Democracy of Beings (Creative Europe, 2018-2021) and she is PI of theMemory in Motion research project. Re-Membering Dance History (SPIN Ca’ Foscari,2019-2022). As a curator she has collaborated with Hangar Bicocca (Milan), the Querini Stamp alia Foundation (Venice), Foundation Pinault-Palazzo Grassi (Venice) and Lavanderia a Vapore- Piemonte dal vivo Foundation (Turin).

 

In compliance with Decree No. 105 of July 23, 2021, in order to access the event, it is necessary to be in possession of a green pass or a negative molecular or antigenic swab made within 48 hours prior to the show. It is also mandatory to have a mask to be worn in case of assembly or entry into indoor spaces.

In compliance with health safety regulations, each event will have a limited number of seats and it is necessary to purchase tickets in advance for dance performances and film screenings, as well as to reserve seats for book presentations and workshops.

 

HEALTH EMERGENCY

The artistic programming and the organization of this edition of Gender Bender pay particular attention to health safety regulations in order to protect the health and well-being of all people together. In the spaces of the festival it is necessary to respect the physical distance, have with you and wear the mask in all movements. Once you have taken your seat you can remove the mask. Hand sanitizers will be available to the public.
