A talk with Jacopo Miliani

Jacopo Miliani, Mariuccia Casadio, Art Consultant, Vogue Italia, Luca Locati Luciani, essayist and founder of a compilation of documents about LGBTQIA + topics, and Mauro Copeta, AD Cassero Club, will give us a preview of the topics that will be treated on the film La Discoteca starting from the birth of nightclubs, in order to explore the way in which this place became fundamental for LGBTQI+ history.

Jacopo Miliani is an Italian visual artist. He studied Art, Music and Entertainment Disciplines (Dams) at the University of Bologna and at the Central Saint Martins College of Art in London. His work is based on interdisciplinary research that involves artistic practices such as installations, videos, performances, collages and photography. Miliani has among others exhibited at the MADRE museum in Naples, at the CAC in Vilnius and at the Villa Croce Museum in Genoa. The artist is also the founder of the OuUnPo group, a network of artists, curators and researchers who work using workshops, meetings and seminars to encourage cultural exchange and sharing.

The project

In a dystopian future, nightclubs have lost their function as a meeting place and have become places where interpersonal intimacy is controlled. In this context, the visual artist Jacopo Miliani gives birth to his first feature film entitled La Discoteca (The nightclub): an oral (and visual) story about dances and bodies that animate the Italian clubbing scene of the 80s and 90s. This scene is presented as a place where exchange, transformation, and love relationships are possible with a strong political and social potential. A film in-between fiction and a documentary where the nightclub becomes a love chamber where people enter two at a time to perform a strictly controlled sexual act. During the Gender Bender Festival, the artist explores for the first time the possibilities of this creation during a public meeting and a workshop thinking about the creation of the film, which will be presented at the Gender Bender 2021 Festival.

La Discoteca is a project curated by Elisa Del Prete and Silvia Litardi / NOS Visual ArtsProduction, winner of the VIII edition of the Italian Council, a program for the promotion of Italian contemporary art in the world of the General Direction for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry for Heritage and Cultural Activities and for Tourism.
