THE SEA IS BEHIND (Al Bahr Min Ouaraikoum)
Tarik is a broken man, who lost his children in an accident while his wife left him for another man. In a devastated Casablanca, amidst ruins and rubbish, Tarik keeps an ancient Maroccan tradition alive, the H’Dya: dressed as a woman, on a cart pulled by a horse, he dances to a bizarre fanfare.
A lucid and deliberate descent towards social margination, in order to reach the roots of his own pain. From one of the leading filmmakers of new Moroccan cinema, an intense and visionary film, poised between dream and hallucination; an immersion into a world full of violence and intolerance, tradition and despair, friendship and solitude.
