Audience Award at the TGLFF 2016, Viva transports us into the colourful world of Cuban drag queens, carefully measuring out melodrama and avoiding stereotypes and clichés. Jesus (Héctor Medina), a young hairdresser, realizes his dream of performing as a drag queen in a club in Havana, but will have to deal with the sudden return of his violent and homophobic father (Jorge Perugorría). The Irish director Paddy Breathnach, had the idea for the film while watching a drag queen show in Havana. A film about transformation and change: of identity, but also of a country, Cuba, in a crucial moment of its history.
