The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe Who Lived for Twenty and Eight Years all Alone on an Inhabited Island and Said It Was His
A film by Benjamin Deboosere
Belgium, 2023, 75′
o.v. with double english/italian subtitle
Surrealist, subversive and irreverent, Benjamin Deboosere’s new film rewrites the story of Robinson Crusoe and the colonialist myth of the white man bringing civilization to a land he takes over. A critical and poetic overturning of Defoe’s novel that offers a concrete and political view of imperialism through a cast composed entirely of black actresses. Fascinating vistas and dreamlike landscapes embellish the film, placing a pulsating animal and plant universe alongside the anthropocentric perspective.
