Cidade, campo
A movie by Juliana Rojas
Brasil, 2024, 119′
National Première
original version (brazilian/portuguese) with italian subtitles
“For a brief moment, a parallel universe is possible,” says one of the characters in this double story set in contemporary Brazil. From the countryside, Joana migrates to São Paulo, joining her sister and nephew, and experiences the world of precarious work in the metropolis. On the other hand, Flávia moves with her girlfriend Mara to the countryside. She discovers an esoteric book and takes a powerful hallucinogen that amplifies the couple’s frustrations, and the unreal takes over their everyday life. The two parts of the film, which are separate but in dialogue, present an atmosphere that is filled with fantasy and mystery, individual drama and stringent topicality, relaxed rhythms and a strong emotional charge.
