La belle de Gaza is a trans woman whose identity is unknown, but whose journey on foot from Gaza to Tel Aviv is narrated. The filmmaker is in search of her, and the traces of this tale, which seems almost like a legend, lead her to meet other Arab and Berber trans women who live and prostitute themselves in Tel Aviv. The existence between two conflicting peoples leads the protagonists to face many levels of oppression, for their gender identity, national identity and faith. Documentary filmmaker Yolande Zauberman, who has often explored themes of identity, marginalization and resilience, brings her unique sensibility to the new film, paving the way for this touching and layered exploration.
