Kokomo City reveals, in a harsh but joyful and ironic way, the intimate stories of four black transgender women. Daniella Carter, Koko Da Doll, Liyah Mitchell, and Dominique Silver are sex workers living between New York and Atlanta, who speak without taboos about their professions and identities. They open up without prejudice about issues surrounding sex, racism, trans identity, and the black community. D. Smith, is incisive and surprising when she shows us a world of stories about the many clients who fail to be honest with themselves, revealing deep truths about the complicated relationships of the main characters with their friends, family members, and other cisgender women.
