Lara Barsacq

Lara Barsacq graduated from the Conservatoire national de Musique et de Danse de Paris in 1991. After a choreographic journey with Ohan Naharin and the Batsheva Dance Company, she decided to devote herself to choreography and created several works for the Batsheva ensemble, the CNSMD in Paris and several independent companies in Israel and Amsterdam. In 2002, she decided to take some time to focus on her path as a performer, eager to engage with the universe of other choreographers or creators, including Benny Claessens, Lies Pauwels, Lisi Estaras or Jérôme Bel. After 15 years of stimulating encounters, she resumes choreography, charged with an experience that now encompasses her multiple talents as a dancer, choreographer and performer. A resident of Brussels since 2007, Barsacq finds in this city an attractive, free and uninhibited artistic universe. In 2016, she began to imagine new spectacular projects rooted in the past, while regularly resurfacing forgotten female figures from dance history. After “Lost in Ballets Russes,” “IDA – don’t cry me love”; “Fruit Tree,” “La Grande Nymphe”; in 2024 at the invitation of the Théâtre de Liège, the choreographer staged “Le fabuleux destin des Ballets russes” with the OPRL-Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, a program of great musical works from the history of dance and the Ballets Russes. The premiere took place on February 2 and 3, 2024 in Liège (Salle Philharmonique), at the opening of the Pays de Danses festival. Lara Barsacq was resident choreographer of Charleroi Danse from 2020 to 2022. She is supported by Grand Studio and was one of the artists of the Grand Luxe Network. Lara Barsacq is affiliated with Théâtre de Liège (2024-2028) and artist-in-residence at Cité musicale-Metz (2024-2026).
