“From Ground Zero” wins audience award for best film at the Gender Bender Festival 2024

The 22 short films by Palestinian filmmakers were screened at the Modernissimo Cinema, Bologna, on Nov. 4, 2024

From Ground Zero wins the audience award for best film at the 22nd Gender Bender Festival, held from October 31 to November 9, 2024. The From Ground Zero project, launched in the last months of 2023 by Rashid Masharawi, a Palestinian filmmaker originally from Gaza, was born out of the need to trace the memory of what was experienced so that the history of the occupation of Palestine cannot be rewritten without taking into account that of Palestinians.

The idea of composing a collaborative film consisting of twenty-two short films, conceived, written and directed by as many young Palestinian filmmakers, allows for a multiplicity of points of view in a wide range of languages that show devastation and rubble but also resistance through their creativity, poetry and the joy of being together.

The film was screened at the Gender Bender Festival on November 4, 2024 in the beautiful premises of the Modernissimo Cinema. (click here to read more). The theatre packed with people, the applauses and the support that the audience expressed are among the unforgettable emotions that we will keep with us. All proceeds from the evening were donated to the Women with Gaza project and to the Al Masharawi Fund, which produced the film.

Thank you for voting, for supporting our vision, and especially for so enthusiastically embracing our cinema proposals! See you very soon on these screens!
