A diverse series of Gender Bender events in May, including book presentations and cinema. Guests: Eleonora Danco, Liv Strömquist and Ali Millar.
The beginning of the sunny weather marks the return of the Gender Bender events.
It all starts on May 12 at 9:30 p.m. at Cinema Teatro Galliera with a special screening of the hilarious and surreal n-Ego,the second audacious film as a director by actress, author and screenwriter Eleonora Danco.
The director walks around the city disguised as a De Chirico mannequin, with a stocking on her face and a cartridge belt of sleeping pills on her chest. This is how “n-Ego”, Eleonora Danco’s film with actors of the caliber of Filippo Timi and the participation of Elio Germano, begins. A journey between streets and people, in search of authenticity, where each encounter becomes the mirror of an inner struggle. A biting film, that oscillates between irony and drama, dream and reality.
A great comeback is Aspettando Gender Bender, the literary review in the company of national and international authors in anticipation of the 23rd edition of the festival. On May 15, Piazza Coperta di Salaborsa will host renowned Swedish cartoonist Liv Strömquist for the presentation of her latest book L’oracolo vi parla (Fandango Libri) in conversation with Cristina Portolano.
We live in a society that pushes us more and more to improve our mental and physical health in order to survive longer and longer, but still gives us no answer to the question of WHY we should continue to thrive on this planet. At a time when we are bombarded with “expert advice” and words like self-care, glow up and positivity, Pythia speaks to you and says, “Give yourself a break.”
On May 19 we move outdoors to the beauty of the cultural center Serre dei Giardini Margherita, where we will welcome Scottish writer Ali Millar who will present her first novel Ava Anna Ada (Edizioni Sur) in conversation with Rita Monticelli.
A visceral and powerful novel, described as “unforgettable and relentless” by the Scotsman and “furiously original” by The Herald.
Ava Anna Ada is a surreal dark-humorous tale about the sudden, unbridled desire that overwhelms Anna, a wealthy 40-year-old married woman with a child, and Ava, a troubled teenager who prostitutes herself to support her mother, in a remote location between England and Scotland. A not-to-be-missed event to discover the incandescent and highly lucid voice of a new protagonist of the international literary scene.
A bookshop will be set up for both presentations by the bookstore liberia La Confraternita dell’Uva.
