La sedia del sadico. Meeting with the writer Chiara Alessi

A new literary event organized by Gender Bender, ahead of the next edition of the Festival!

On Wednesday, April 29th (6 p.m.) in the Salaborsa Conference Room, Chiara Alessi, writer, teacher, and expert in material culture and design, will present her latest book, La sedia del sadico (The Sadist’s Chair), in which she approaches design from a critical gender perspective.

Reviewing the history of design, the writer explains how the design of objects has contributed to fueling the patriarchal system of oppression of women by taking the ‘average man’ as the standard.

Looking at design from a feminist perspective helps us not only to denounce exclusion, but also to imagine a world in which women design tools capable of renegotiating power dynamics, renegotiating bodies, renegotiating knowledge, and renegotiating function.
