Alessandro Berti

 
Alessandro Berti, born in Reggio Emilia is an actor, director and playwright. After the School of Theatre in Genova he founded L’IMPASTO Comunità Teatrale (1996-2004) with Michela Lucenti for whom he writes and directs all the shows, including Skankrer (1996),Terra di burro (1997), trionfo anonimo (2000), L’agenda di Seattle (2001), Il quartiere (2002). From 2003 to 2007 he directs in Udine La scuola popolare di teatro and the project ARTE/SOCIETA’/FOLLIA, in collaboration with CSS, Centro Balducci in Zugliano and the local DSM. In 2005 he won the Gherardi Prize with his Theatre in Verse. Since 2006 he has been experimenting with monologue as a privileged vehicle of communication with the audience. Fruits of this season are Confine (2006, Santarcangelo Festival), L’abbandono (2009, CSS Udine), Combattimento spirituale davanti a una cucina ikea, (2011,winner of the I Teatri Del Sacro prize), Un cristiano (2014). With the next two shows, in collaboration with Ignazio de Francesco, Leila della tempesta (2016), a dialogue on the relationship between sharia and the Italian constitution, and Simeon and Samir (2019), the story of a friendship between a Christian and a Muslim. Berti’s work delves into the social, political, and historical, as also confirmed by his new project, the White Lies trilogy, whose first chapter, BLACK DICK (2018) deals with the history of the image of the black male in the West and the second, Negroes Without Memory (2020) the evolution of the relationship between Italian Americans and African Americans.
