Danio Manfredini
Danio Manfredini studied with César Brie and Iben Nagel Rasmussen, and grew up in Milan’s self-managed social centers; he also worked for a long time in psychiatric facilities.
He collaborated with the Pippo Delbono company, defining in this way a confrontation with Raffaella Giordano and some dancers of Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater. Again with the Pippo Delbono company he lends his singing voice for the show “Il Silenzio”. With Cesare Ronconi and Mariangela Gualtieri’s Teatro Valdoca he has produced two shows “Parsifal” and “Caino”.
Since 2010 he has collaborated consistently with La Corte Ospitale, a Reggio Emilia-based theater production company that researches new languages of the scene, where his creations have taken shape and life since 2012. Since October 2013 Manfredini has been director of the Accademia D’Arte Drammatica Del Teatro Bellini in Naples for the three-year period 2013-2016. In 2014 he debuted at the Santarcangelo Festival with “Vocazione”. In September 2017 he debuts at the Terni International Festival with the show Luciano. Since 2018 he has been conducting “Repertory. School of high training” at La Corte Ospitale. In October 2020 he makes his debut in Turin, Festival delle Colline Torinesi, with “Nel lago del cor”.
He has won three Ubu Awards, the first in 1989 with “Miracle of the Rose”, ten years later with “Al presente” (best actor) and again in 2004 with “Cinema Cielo” (best director). In 2013 he received the Lo Straniero Award as “master of many while remaining stubbornly on the margins of the big circuits and refractory to the temptations of media success.” In December 2013 he collects the fourth UBU Prize, Special Awards section, and in 2023 he receives the Ubu Prize for Lifetime Achievement.
