Gaya de Medeiros
Gaya de Medeiros Gaya de Medeiros is a Brazilian dancer, choreographer and producer. Interested in researching intersections between the word and the body, the private and the public, the intimate and the social, Gaya wonders about the place of drama in contemporary times. He studied Animation Cinema at UFMG/BR and, in the performing arts, studied classical, contemporary, jazz and urban dance. He also studied theater and butoh with masters such as Denise Stoklos, Tadashi Endo, Roberta Carrieri, Cie Dos a Deux, among others. For 9 years, between 2010 and 2019, she worked as a dancer and co-creator at the Palácio das Artes Dance Company. Gaya is the author of the shows “After Party” (2020) and “Atlas da Boca” (2021) – presented at Aero Waves 2022 and with extensive international circulation scheduled for the 2023-2024 biennium –, movement director of the shows “Ciclos” ( 2018) and “Kolakeia” (2022) and the short film “Ouro Preto” (2018), awarded at the Reel Sisters Film Festival/NY. In Portugal, she worked as a dancer and creator with Gustavo Cirático (“Em deriva”, 2021), Tiago Cadete (“Brasa”, within the scope of BoCA 2021), Sónia Baptista (“WOW”, 2022), Daniel Gorjão (“Tudo Sobre a Minha Mãe”, 2022), Vítor Hugo Pontes (“Corpos Clandestinos”, 2022) and Olga Roriz (“The Time We Didn’t Know Anything About Each Other”, 2023). He also choreographed the first online Drag musical “ClockDown” (2020). In 2021, he founded BRABA.plataforma, a structure that enables creative actions directed and led by trans and/or non-binary people.
