Tabea Martin
Tabea Martin is a choreographer and performer based in Basel, Switzerland. She studied Modern Dance at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Amsterdam (2002). She has danced with Piet Rogie & Company in the Netherlands, with Fabian Chyle in Stuttgart and Nick Bryson in Ireland. She was a visiting student at SNDO in Amsterdam and finished her choreography studies at the Rotterdamse Dansacademie in 2006.
Her productions A coté de l’ombre (2004), Sculpterre (2005), Promenade dans l’eau (2005) and Impair (2005) have toured the Netherlands and Switzerland. In 2006 her production Über freundliche und ausgeglichene Menschen opened Tanztage Basel at the Roxy Theater. In 2007 she was invited to a symposium with Forced Entertainment at PACT Zollverein Essen.
In 2008 she was invited to Choreoroam Project, an initiative for young choreographers in Britain, Italy and Switzerland. In the Netherlands her work was supported by Dansateliers Rotterdam and Het LAB Utrecht. In 2011 Tabea won the Wim Barry Prize for all her choreographic work in the Netherlands and was nominated by Dutch Dance Days for promising young choreographers.
Duet for two dancers (2010) was selected by Aerowaves in 2013 and was awarded by Reconnaissance, Échirolles 2013. Field (2014) was selected by Aerowaves for Priority Group. Since then both productions have toured Europe.
Tabea Martin also collaborates regularly with municipal and state theaters. Her production ‘Pink for Girls & Blue for Boys’ premiered at Tanzhaus Zürich in January 2016 and has toured throughout Europe. On February 1, 2018, her duet This is my last dance debuted at Kaserne Basel together with Italian dancer Simona Bertozzi. This was the first part of the trilogy she made about transience.
Her latest works, both touring Europe, are Geh nicht in den Wald im Wald ist der Wald 2022 and the solo for Tamara Gvozdenovic Demain est annulé.
Tabea Martin received the 2016 Culture Prize from Kanton Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland.
From 2016 to 2018 she was a ‘Young Associated Artist’ of the Pro Helvetia-Swiss Arts Council mentoring program. She was supported by PRAIRIE – the co-production support of Migros Cultural Percentage from 2016 to 2019. From 2018-2020 / 2021-2023 and from 2024-2026 Tabea Martin is supported by Fachausschuss Tanz & Theater Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft in collaboration with Pro Helvetia-Swiss Culture Foundation. Tabea Martin is also a jury member of the Tanzkommission of the City of Zurich, the SSA – Société Suisse des Auteurs and the Atelier Mondial of the Christoph Merian Stiftung.
