À LA RECHERCHE DU TEMPS PERDU
A show by Est Roman Coulon
France, 25′
With the support of Fondazione Nuovi Mecenati – Fondazione Franco-Italiana di sostegno alla creazione contemporanea

In 2022, during his last stay at the house where he grew up, Est Roman Coulon began transcribing Marcel Proust’s seven-volume novel Alla ricerca del tempo perduto by hand onto sheets of paper, which he then glued together. The result of this purposeless practice is an ever-growing, accordion-folded book that preserves the memory of the places where it takes shape, day by day. Proust’s words, characters and world become a gateway to the past and the future, memory and imagination, as time and identities shift and flow. The performance is experienced by one person at a time: an intimate encounter that engages both physical and emotional memory, while metaphorically exploring the unstable, relational nature of identity.

Bio
Born in Lyon in 1994, Est Roman Coulon (he, him) is a transdisciplinary artist whose research borrows from conceptual art, literature and scenic language.
He trained in theater and performing arts in Italy, where in 2019 he participated in the creation of two collectives: Extragarbo, whose works tend to blur the line between curatorial and artistic practices, and Call Monica, which explores the relation between body and public space from a feminist, queer point of view through workshops and performances. The two groups have collaborated with important Italian and international institutions, including Santarcangelo Festival, Centrale Fies, Istituto Svizzero and Goethe Institut.
In parallel with these collective experiences, in the last few years Est Roman Coulon has started developing his first personal projects, which are characterized by a particular interest in minor gestures and by the will to destabilize the notion of authorship.
His theoretical and artistic research is closely linked to independent cultural spaces, especially queer, transfeminist realities, such as Casa Punto Croce (Venice), where he exhibited his work and contributed to curating events between 2022 and 2025.
Est Roman Coulon is currently based in Lyon (France).
