I RARELY WAKE UP DREAMING
A film by Isabelle Stever
Germany – Ukraine, 2026, 110′
v.o. italian subtitles

When Oleh, a transgender man, finally obtains a passport that recognises his identity, he and his partner Olya dream of marriage and a future of freedom. But the sudden Russian invasion of Ukraine and the war that ensued shatter their plans. Through a raw, sensual and unflinching narrative, Isabelle Stever explores the stark contrast between the fragility of the body and the blind brutality of war, asking a profound question: what does it mean to be a man in a country fighting for its identity and survival? Their relationship is put to the test not only by the chaos of war, but also by the struggle to remain true to themselves in a rapidly deteriorating environment.
