A show by gruppo nanou

redrum, a choreographic installation for five dancers and one performer, takes its name from The Shining, Stephen King’s novel and Stanley Kubrick’s film adaptation. It evokes the idea of a place that does not exist, yet feels strangely familiar: a space that unleashes a disturbing imagination populated by ghosts and memories, where the boundaries between reality, dreams and desire begin to blur. The performance thus becomes a space to inhabit rather than something to be observed from a distance. There is no boundary between stage and audience. Spectators are free to explore the spaces around them – in this case, the cellars of Palazzo Bentivoglio – choosing when to enter and when to leave. As they move through space, the performance unfolds before them in a way that is unique and perhaps unrepeatable.

Bio
Founded in Ravenna in 2004, gruppo nanou is a contemporary dance company that intertwines choreography, visual arts, and sound research, weaving a stage narrative composed of bodies, light, and space. Its artistic journey moves between presence and vision, crafting performances, choreographic installations, and research projects that dissolve the boundaries between image and movement.
With redrum, a choreographic installation awarded the 2024 Ubu Prize for Best Dance Performance, gruppo nanou reaffirms its exploration of dance as perceptual architecture—a vision to be traversed.
Since 2019, gruppo nanou has collaborated regularly with musician Bruno Dorella, intertwining sound and choreographic paths that amplify the theatrical material.
gruppo nanou inhabits the stage as a place of disappearance and revelation, where choreography does not narrate but rather transfigures the visible.
