Les femmes au balcon (The balconettes)
A movie by Noémie Merlant
France, 2024, 103’
original version (french) with italian subtitles
Trying her hand at the dual role of director and actress, Noémie Merlant creates a hybrid and original work, somewhere between the raw style of Tarantino and the lyricism of Almodóvar. Co-written and co-produces by Céline Sciamma, this surreal and provocative comedy-horror film, presented at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, talks about sexism and violence by skillfully blending humor, grotesque elements and fantasy. During a scorching summer in Marseille, three young girls indulge in all sorts of fantasies about their next-door neighbor (interpreted by Lucas Bravo, famous star of Emily in Paris), who will turn out to be very different from what they thought. During a party, a violent act will lead to a bloodbath and an unexpected ending.
