Michael Getman

Michael Getman is an Israeli choreographer and performer. Trained at the Bat-Dore Dance School, he began his career as a dancer and performer shortly after graduating. Between 1995 and 2005 he worked as a professional dancer and experimented with various styles and working methods interpreting works by choreographers such as Ohad Naharin, Amanda K Miller, Marguerite Donlon, William Forsythe, Regina Van Berkel.  At the age of 17 he joined the young Bat Sheva Ensemble Company, directed by Naomie Perlov. After a year at the Junior company he was invited by the artistic director, Ohad Naharin, to join the Bat Sheva Dance Company. In 1999 he joined Ballet Freiburg – Pretty Ugly Dance Company, directed by Amanda K Miller. Between 2002 and 2003 he danced at the Stats Theater Saarbrucken, under the artistic direction of Marguerite Donlon.
His works are presented at various festivals in Europe and around the world. In 2015 he was invited by cellist and artistic director Zvika Plesser to create a choreographic score on Schubert’s Death and the Maiden Quartet and Stravinsky’s L’histoire du Soldat, premiered at the opening night of the ‘Voice of Music – Camera dell ‘Upper Galilee Music Festival’. In 2016 Michael collaborated with theater director Igor Berezin, staging and choreographing the show Bucha (Yosef Bar Yosef) for the Kahn Theater in Jerusalem. In 2008 he won the international choreographic competition Cross Connection Ballet in Copenhagen and in 2014 the international choreographic competition No Balett in Ludwingshafen, Germany. Getman also teaches and holds research- and improvisation-based workshops for professionals and amateurs and for Bachelor’s and Master’s programs at various universities and art schools.
