Memorias de un cuerpo que arde
A movie by Antonella Sudasassi Furniss
Costa Rica/Spain, 2024 | 90′
National Première
original version (spanish) with italian subtitles
Winner at the Berlinale in the Panorama section, Antonella Sudasassi Furniss’ new documentary explores the theme of female desire and pleasure in old age, completing a trilogy devoted to female sexuality in her home country of Costa Rica. Combining original audio testimonies and reenactments, three women (Ana, Patricia and Mayela) over the age of 65 in Costa Rica break the silence. They talk about repressed desires and pleasures, weaving together the stories of religious repression and machismo that have affected their lives. An intimate and sincere story that reflects on stereotypes and taboos that strongly condition women’s freedom even today.
