The category is: Movies! THIS IS BALLROOM, directed by filmmakers Vitã and Juru, is a performance documentary that offers an inside look at the universe of ballroom culture around Rio de Janeiro. The community is described as a place of meeting and celebration, but also a space where conflicts can be addressed. Ballroom is a fashion show, a beauty pageant, a dance performance and, at the same time, a battle. But above all, it is a refuge where queer and nonwhite people can take a break from a society that does not give spaces to them.

Vitã is a filmmaker and screenwriter focusing on musicals, LGBTQIA+ narratives and documentaries. He coordinates the Ritornelo creative center and the Moventes magazine. On the ballroom scene, is Empress of the Legendary House of Lauren Brazil.
Juru is an artist-researcher of body arts and cinema. Has a doctorate in Arts and a master’s degree in Contemporary Art Studies, both in Rio de Janeiro.
