About the project
DNAppunti coreografici is a project, whose purpose is to support young Italian choreographers. The project consists of several stages of research and creation: the participants will collect their ideas, examine the results
Goals
The goal of the initiative is to choose a young Italian choreographer, who will be given the chance to develop their idea by pursuing a research project in which they will receive various forms of support: touring creative residencies, financial resources and visibility.

DNAppunti coreografici is promoted and supported in collaboration between Centro Nazionale di produzione della danza Virgilio Sieni, Operaestate Festival/CSC Centro per la scena contemporanea del Comune di Bassano del Grappa, L’arboreto – Teatro Dimora di Mondaino, Fondazione Romaeuropa, Gender Bender Festival, Triennale Milano Teatro.
Who is it for, and what does it offer?
DNAppunti coreografici is a support project for young Italian choreographers under 35.
It offers:
– 34 days of artistic residency,
– a total financial grant of up to 18,500.00 euros,
– 5 performances of the completed project as part of the partners’ programming.

Two dancers seem to move forward and chase one another but remain trapped in a ceaseless oscillation, in a movement without a destination. Even the time in which they are immersed—the present as the only place where one can truly exist—is in reality an illusion constructed between the imprint of the past and a purpose for the future. *Everybody Has a Fate* invites us to reflect on the nature of fragmented time in contemporary society, on the meaning of the present, and on the hope for a future that, however uncertain, calls on us to reach it.

*Fuck Me Blind* is a choreographic duet inspired by *Blue*, Derek Jarman’s testamentary film. In this film, Jarman makes his impending death—due to complications related to AIDS—the final and driving force of his existence. In the performance, two bodies, mirroring one another in circular and centrifugal movements, draw closer until they grasp one another, shaping each other. The blue light—another reference to Jarman’s film—allows the two performers time to meet and unite, thus creating a hypnotic experience that intertwines their bodies within a homoerotic landscape.

A reflection on the representation of the feminine in the visual arts, on the incessant consumption of images in traditional media, and on the sexualization of the female body. The project examines how the body is observed, exploring the dynamics and politics of the gaze through the relationship between spectator and performer. Soft forms and weights sinking into the floor outline the curves of abstract postures. Memories drawn from the topos of the reclining female portrait and everyday gestures sketch images of a gradual emancipation from the floor, remaining unabashedly frontal yet concealed.

What sensations does the body experience in the face of loss? *Irene*, the winning project of DNAppunti Coreografici 2022, explores the relationship with the physical and mental space created by absence, in an extreme attempt to connect with the invisible. Dance becomes the tool for exploring the linearity of time and confronting a past that returns to unsettle, to create chaos both inside and outside the body.

“Pas de deux” offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic pas de deux, reinventing it to the rhythm of compelling electronic music. The two dancers, enveloped in darkness, use their free and light bodies to create new and unexpected trajectories. Space, body, and music interact to create new visual landscapes and new forms of virtuosity, drawing on a timeless imagination.

A sound welcomes the audience as they enter a black-and-gold space, illuminated by three lights that guide the viewer toward an encounter with the dancer—her movement, her breath, and her voice. In *My Body*, Stefania Tansini (2022 Ubu Award for Best Performer Under 35) presents an intimate and evocative attempt to connect with the other self, in which the individual’s vulnerable side is exposed and generously offered. The choreographer continues her exploration of the body and movement through a form of authentic expression that is deeply in touch with otherness.

A hymn to human and artistic encounter, to shared authorship, and to the poetics of the body—through which the collective explores its relationship with aesthetics, choreography, languages, rules, and rebellion. Energetic, explosive, and evocative, Collettivo MINE’s debut work is both a founding act and a statement of identity. The practice of repetition and the stubborn determination within a single stage action generate interactions and correspondences that reflect on the ability to navigate change and the passage of time together. A performance with a vibrant emotional charge in which individual breath and the collective movement of bodies converge into a single organism.

What happens when we don’t understand ourselves? Does the desire to communicate survive? Does the effort to understand survive? Keo draws inspiration from the artificial satellite of the same name, which in 50,000 years will return to Earth to deliver the messages stored within it. By focusing on a utopian connection between the idea of “the other”—far away in time and space—and those who are, instead, close in both time and space, the performance engages the audience to create a moment of reflection on the desire to connect despite difficulties and potential differences. What if, in 50,000 years, the time capsule were to return to Earth and be opened by a version of ourselves very different from who we are now? A different society, a different culture, a different language.

“How I love, O adored indolent one, / to see your body so beautiful, / your skin shimmering / like iridescent fabric!” Sara Sguotti, the choreographer who won the 2017 DNAppunti Coreografici competition, draws inspiration from Charles Baudelaire’s poem “The Dancing Serpent” and the works of Louise Bourgeois, Tracy Enim, and Ren Hang to create a self-portrait of pleasure, shaping her body like a pulsating, incandescent, animalistic substance.

This performance began as an exploration of the nature of art: what makes an artistic creation universal, given that one’s point of view can inevitably change if one’s visual perception of reality shifts, or if one adopts a different perspective? Izzo and Petracca multiply the points of view in a sort of game of mirrors that engages the audience’s gaze.

An exploration of “the conviviality of matter and humanity, in solitude and in communion, and of the potential and poetics of collective intelligence.” The stage space is animated by three male performers using copper rods. The bodies and rods roll, fall, and rise again, attempting to forge a dialogue built on responsibility and acceptance.
